DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for information on the history of Holy Cross School (Ecole Ste. Croix). Also in the early 1960s we had an organization called La Croisade (Crusaders in Christ). Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. — C.M., rcm12@roadrunner.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots guesses that you already tried the Internet. She looked herself, but some of the sites were in French, which she does not comprehend, and she’s not sure precisely what you’re looking for.

You might try the Androscoggin Historical Society. You can check them out online at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~meandrhs/. They are in the County Building on Court Street and can be reached at 784-0586 or 786-2129.

Another possibility is the Franco-American Collection at USM LAC. See the next letter for the contact information.

Sun Spots suspects many readers will want to share their memories with you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’ve noticed that you often receive questions regarding old sheet music and vinyl records. While the Franco-American Collection at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College is willing to take donations of any French material, I have an alternative source for donations of English records or sheet music.

Readers with sheet music should contact the Bagaduce Music Library in Blue Hill. They have a catalog of thousands and are internationally renowned. Their contact information is 5 Music Library Lane, Blue Hill, ME 04614, 374-5454, www.bagaducemusic.org.

For vinyl records, readers could try two community radio stations: WYAR in Yarmouth (wyar.org; 847-3169), and WMPG in Portland (wmpg.org; 780-4424). Both are volunteer-run and would appreciate additions to their catalogs. — James Myall, jmyall@usm.maine.edu

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Don, who has stuff he wants to send to the troops (Sept. 29), might want to contact some of the American Legion or VFW posts in the area because they send packages to the troops and they used to collect items for the packages. They should be able to help this person out. — greatgramgrover@beeline-online.net

ANSWER: Several local organizations and businesses have launched drives for the troops over the past few years. Most recently, TD Bank sent care packages, and a Rumford group did Operation Gratitude). Both of these were announced in Sun Spots, and she hopes other groups will do the same.

Readers might also want to know that they are not to send homemade food items unless they personally know the service member. Troops are instructed to throw out food that comes from anyone they don’t know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In answer to Connie Beedy who was looking for the amount of sugar in a recipe (Sept. 26), if it was the Cumberland craft show she attended, the vendor must be a member of United Maine Craftsmen. Therefore, contact information would be listed under “members” on their website. There is an Amber Bentley, doing business as Mommy and Me, in Oakland. Her phone number is 465-7210. The website is www.mommyandmeforyou.com — Betty Snowman, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to your reader’s inquiry about crafting site on Saturday, Sept. 24, I am intrigued by www.favecrafts.com. It offers a wide variety of projects, some that are simple and others a bit more complicated. The site seems to be updated daily. Enjoy! As always thanks for an interesting column. — Jane , Oxford
