An entire calendar year’s worth of sports are unfolding this fall at Central Maine Community College.

In addition to the traditional men’s and women’s soccer programs that prevail everywhere at this time of year, the Mustangs have played a full slate of baseball and softball games as the warm weather winds down.

Each roster is dominated by local athletes.

Men’s soccer highlights:

— Branden Lever of Auburn (Edward Little) dished out two assists in an 11-0 men’s soccer victory over the University of Maine at Augusta.

— Kaleb Davis of Poland picked up a goal in a 3-2 loss to Southern Maine Community College.

— Lewiston’s J.J. Musse found the back of the net twice in a 4-4 tie against Unity. Musse’s former high school teammate, Erik Tiner, made 15 saves in the CM net to preserve the deadlock, with Derick Belanger of Lisbon headlining the defensive effort in front of the cage.

— Musse notched a goal and Tiner turned in a yeoman effort with 24 saves in a 2-1 road triumph at Eastern Maine CC.

— Subeer Osman of Lewiston and Belanger each registered an assist and Tiner served up another shutout, 7-0 over UMA.

The softball spotlight:

— Nicena Walker of Bethel (Telstar) was the winning pitcher in a 10-9 victory and a hard-luck loser, 1-0, in a pair of contests with New Hampshire Technical Institute. Walker allowed only four hits in the defeat. She combined for four strikeouts in the two games.

— Magan Blais of Sabattus (Oak Hill) was 3-for-4 in a 10-4 loss to the University of New Hampshire.

— Shyan Baillargeon matched Blais with three hits against UNH and had two hits in the 1-0 loss to NHTI.

Baseball’s big performers:

— Mountain Valley product Derek Volkernick drove in both runs in a 12-2 loss to NHTI. Volkernick also pitched well in a 6-2 loss to Vermont Tech, striking out six.

— Justin Cocroft (Oxford Hills), David Hobson (Monmouth) and Dartanyan Bourget (Poland) swung the hot bats as the Mustangs earned revenge with a 8-2 victory over their rivals from Vermont.

That covers fall and spring. As for winter, CMCC will start that slate while there are still some leaves on the trees, too. Annual alumni games are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, with the regular season starting the next day.

The University of New England’s field hockey winning streak has reached a school-record 12 games.

UNE extended that mark Saturday with a home victory over Nichols. Michelle Oswald of Jay (Mt. Blue), the team’s second-leading scorer, logged her third assist of the season. Oswald has scored seven goals for the Nor’easters.

Seven of the wins have been by a one-goal margin, with three coming in overtime.

Brianna Tupper of Winthrop has scored four goals, with Jay High School product Kelsea Beisaw adding two.

UNE’s previous school record was nine consecutive wins, set two years ago.
