This is in response to Edward Ferreira’s letter to the editor, “A Palestinian state,” printed Oct. 4.

The United Nations has the responsibility of enforcing the original League of Nations 1921 mandate concerning the land allocated to Israel and should not demand that Israel give up more land for peace.

Originally, the area east of the Jordan was included in the League of Nations’ mandate for a Jewish state. Later, during the British occupation, Sir Winston Churchill gave 78 percent of Jewish mandated land that was east of the Jordan for a Palestinian state, which then became the Jordan monarchy.

In 1948, King Abdullah of Jordan annexed and occupied the West Bank.

Israel has all rights to build on its own land. The Palestinian land is occupied by the monarchy of Jordan.
