RUMFORD — Mountain Valley scored three early second-half goals to pull away for a 4-1 victory over Telstar.
Simon Jensen put the Falcons up 1-0 off a penalty kick with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half. The junior fullback struck again 1:43 into the second half with his second score of the game.
Josh Rainey and Andrew Phelps followed with goals to put Mountain Valley (5-5-1) in a commanding 4-0 lead. Telstar’s (0-10-1) Tyler Brown put the Rebels on the board with a late goal.
Kyle Gauvin turned away seven shots for the Falcons, while Telstar’s Michael Del Duca had 11 saves on 15 shots in the loss.
Hampden 1, EL 0
AUBURN — Dan Good picked up a loose ball off a scramble to drill in the game’s lone score as Hampden Academy downed Edward Little.
The freshman scored the goal with 17-minutes remaining in the first half. Cooper Antone put the ball in front and off a deflection, Good was able to put the ball in the net.
Logan Poirier made three saves in net for the Broncos (8-2-1). Edward Little (3-7-1) keeper Ben Bowles stopped six shots in the loss.
Waynflete 2, Gray-NG 0
GRAY — Zander Majerck kept the ball out of the net to lead Waynflete to a 2-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester.
Mitch Newlan and Paul Ruyumbo scored for the Flyers.
Majerck made three saves for the win, while Nick Rogers stopped five shots for the Patriots.
Girls’ soccer
Gardiner 3, Oak Hill 0
WALES — The Gardiner Tigers scored three first-half goals to blank Oak Hill 3-0 in girls’ soccer.
Kylee Grandholm opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game with an unassisted tally. Morgan Carver and Beth Day followed with insurance goals to seal the win for the Tigers (4-5-2).
Gardiner outshot the Raiders (3-6-2) 8-4. Ally Day stopped all four shots she faced for the shutout. Oak Hill’s Desiree Johns made five saves in net.
Field hockey
Lawrence 2, Oxford Hills 1
SOUTH PARIS — Danielle Armour stuffed a shot past the Vikings goalie with 4:18 remaining to break a 1-1 tie as Lawrence slipped past Oxford Hills 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Bulldog Caitlin Koller got the scoring started by converting a corner.
Vikings’ Heather Verrier tied the score with eight minutes remaining before Armour’s game-winner. Lawrence (8-4-1) outshot Oxford Hill 16-5 in the victory.
Emily Lambert stopped one shot for Lawrence. Shannon Fillebrown and Abi Egan split time in net for Oxford Hills (5-7-2) stopping seven shots.
