LEWISTON — Patricia Hughes of Dixmont will be the presenter at the USM Lewiston/Auburn Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

She will discuss her latest book, “Maine’s Waterfalls.”

Attendees will learn how 177 waterfalls shaped Maine’s history from prehistoric times to the present. L/A’s Great Falls and Rumford Falls, which Hughes says “was one of the most powerful waterfalls known to the colonists,” will be featured, as well as waterfalls in all 16 counties of Maine with basic directions to the sites.

A native Mainer, Hughes enjoys the beauty and bounty of Maine’s outdoors and lives in rural Maine. She has also written “Lost Loot,” “More Lost Loot,” “Lost Loot II” and coming soon, “Lost Loot III,” all about ghostly New England treasure tales. She is the RSU #3 Adult & Community Education director in Thorndike.

Senior College, now in its 13th year, presents the monthly 11:30 luncheon program in Function Room 170 at USM LAC. The cost, which includes lunch, is $7 with advance reservation or $8 at the door. Reservations must be made by noon on Oct. 13 by calling 753-6510. Any late callers will be considered “at the door.”
