FARMINGTON — Men are invited to a special event at noon Wednesday, Oct. 12, to reaffirm continued awareness of domestic violence in the main lobby of the Franklin Memorial Hospital entrance.
Gerald Cayer, Franklin Community Health Network vice president, invites all men to show their support that there are no excuses — period, by attending the gathering and wearing purple.
Though the program targets men, woman are also invited to attend.
The event is going on in conjunction with Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day.
“The goal is to continue to engage the community, namely men, in creating social change,” Cayer said in a prepared statement. “Guest speaker will be Jane Morrison, executive director of Safe Voices, an organization that supports and empowers those affected by domestic violence and engages the community in creating social change.”
A banner will be unveiled that will hang during the month of October and be illuminated at night by a purple light. Purple domestic violence awareness pins will be distributed to all attendees.
The 20-minute event is a follow-up to a June assembly of men who signed a pledge at FMH to support becoming part of the solution to end domestic violence.
Since that time, Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County, an affiliate of Franklin Community Health Network, has been participating in a community response that:
* Makes it clear there are no excuses — period.
* Supports the healthy development of boys.
* Organizes systems of response for men who need support.
