BETHEL — The third annual Airport Community Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Bethel Regional Airport.

The timing is to take advantage of Western Maine’s fall foliage and to promote aviation, Tony Milligan, airport coordinator and assistant manager, said Sunday by email.

“Ordinarily, scenic flights are not offered at the airport because a commercial operator is not based on field, but the FAA grants special approval each year to take the public up for a scenic flight,” Milligan said.

Weather permitting, fall foliage scenic flights will be offered to the public by local volunteer qualified pilots for a requested minimum donation of $25 a person to cover costs.

All proceeds will directly benefit the Bethel Regional Airport.

Additionally, there will be aircraft displays, powered parachutes, food, music and fun.

“Come support your local regional airport, enjoy some good food and treat yourself to the wonders of an exhilarating scenic flight in Western Maine,” Milligan said. “Cameras are welcome!”

The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 16. For more information, call 824-3100 or the Airport Information Line at 512-5552.
