The entire Lewiston Police Department, from the chief on down, will receive their annual physicals next month from the department doctor. According to Chief Roland C. Amnott, there will be 62 men involved in the mass physical, including himself. Examinations should begin about November 11.

Can Bates College win its first-ever Maine intercollegiate women’s tennis championship?

The Bobcats, on their way to the best season in their history, will find out this weekend at Colby College in Waterville, site of the Maine AIAW championships. Competition among Bates, Bowdoin, Colby and the University of Maine will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the singles final set for 10 a.m. Sunday.

Bates’ best team finish in the state tournament to date was second in 1983, and Jill Grayson won the Maine singles title in 1975.
