PORTLAND — The Portland Symphony Orchestra will present a Halloween-themed Discovery concert filled with symphonic thrills and chills for the whole family on Sunday, Oct. 30.

“Symphony Spooktacular” will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Merrill Auditorium. Children and adults are encouraged to attend in costume and to arrive early for preconcert fun and games. the program lasts about an hour.

Music Director Robert Moody will lead PSO musicians (all in fun costumes) in “Funeral March of a Marionette,” by Gounod; “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” by Dukas; music from Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique;” and “The Chill of the Orchestra,” by American composer Russel Peck.

Portland Ballet dancers will join in “Bella’s Lullaby” from “Twilight” and lead the audience in the zombie dance stylings of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

While children of all ages may enjoy “Symphony Spooktacular,” those ages 8-13 will likely enjoy it most.
