MEXICO — The town’s annual night of appreciation will be held Oct. 20 at the Mexico Recreation Center.

The event is an invitation-only dinner where selectmen show their appreciation to town employees, committee members and volunteers. Various awards, including citizen of the year, volunteer of the year, and employee of the year, will be presented.

Last year, Connie Tutlis was honored as citizen of the year for her volunteer service of more than 30 years. Tutlis has served on the Recreation Committee, Mexico Historical Society, Budget Committee, and as the ballot clerk.

The Holmquist family in Peru also won last year’s volunteer of the year for their help in the beginning process of building a new bathroom at the Mexico Recreation Park.

A spaghetti and meatballs dinner will be served by selectmen, with Mexico Police Explorers helping out.

Town secretary Sheryl Briggs said she will be cooking the dinner using her grandmother’s recipe for the meatballs.

“I think it’s a great way to show our appreciation to our employees and the years of service they give the town,” Selectman Richard Philbrick said.

Selectman Reggie Arsenault agreed, saying it really gives the community a sense of pride.
