LEWISTON — Two internationally recognized beekeeping experts will be the featured speakers at the Maine State Beekeepers Association meeting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Ramada Inn, 490 Pleasant St.

Dennis VanEngelsdorp, former Pennsylvania state apiculturalist, and Michael Palmer, Vermont commercial beekeeper and queen honey bee breeder, will speak. The topic for the meeting will be “What’s Working in Beekeeping.” These internationally recognized beekeepers will be joined by the Maine state apiarist, Anthony Jadczak, and a panel of beekeepers from around the state, discussing the threats currently facing honey bees in Maine and around the nation, and

teaching strategies for keeping hives healthy and productive.

The meeting is expected to draw several hundred beekeepers from around the state and the New England region. This will be the largest gathering of beekeepers in Maine in 2011.

Each year, the Maine State Beekeepers Association hosts an annual meeting and conference as a way of educating beekeepers about best management practices and other techniques for improving honey bee colony health and honey production.

Cost for the meeting is $40 per person. Registration available at mainebeekeepers.org/annual-meeting. For additional information, contact Erin MacGregor-Forbes, president of the Maine State Beekeepers Association, at 838-4046 or president@mainebeekeepers.org.
