LEWISTON — Carsiller D. Gildersleeve, known to all as “Sheena,” 53, of Pine Street died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, Oct. 10.
She was born in Mobile, Ala., Oct. 12, 1958. She relocated to Maine in 1989. She eventually made Lewiston her home where more family from Alabama came to call home as well. Sheena became the hub of the family bringing people together with her amazing gift and love for cooking soul food.
On any given day you could walk into her home and be hit by the most amazing smell that made your mouth water and your belly growl and there would always be a plate waiting for you. When you finally found her in the kitchen there would be Al Green blaring, a cold glass beside her and a smile on her face.
On most days, there would be at least two grandkids running around giving her a joy that there are no words for. She was indeed a blessing, taking in anyone who needed a place to stay or a warm meal. She loved throwing birthday parties and bringing the family together.
She was known for staying up all night cooking and saying “Oh I just threw a little somethin’ together.” and it would be a 12 course meal. Her smile was infectious along with that wonderful laugh. She will be missed dearly.
She leaves her mother, Mamie Jimmerson of Lewiston; her father, James Parker of Mobile, Ala.; her three sons, Lacederick Eirby and his partner, Sarah Bunnitt, of Lewiston, Lamichael Gildersleeve of Lewiston and Antoine Gildersleeve and his companion, Crystal Eirby, of Litchfield; her extended son, Kenny Scales; a brother, Precsell Williams of Lewiston; three sisters, Jessica Nolan of Lewiston, Katherine Jimmerson of Lewiston and Chaquanda Jimmerson of Lewiston; her favorite Aunt Jean of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Quaneysha, Rocyris, Lashawnee, Dalycia, Mya, Christian, Tyreek, Bishop and Miles; and many aunts, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Tyreece Eirby; and her longtime companion, Michael Owens.
