LEWISTON — Lynne Ellen (Marble) Piper, 73, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of Wilton, died peacefully in her sleep at Marshwood Center on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Lynne was born March 2, 1938, in Portland, daughter of Herbert A. Jr. and Theda Marble. She grew up in Wilton, where she graduated from Wilton Academy in 1956. Lynne always spoke fondly of her high school years, where she was active in every sport and club possible.
Lynne graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1959, where she was head majorette and a sister at Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After graduation, she spent brief periods in Germany and Jonesport, where she began her teaching career. In 1963, Lynne moved to Tilton, N.H., where she taught fifth and sixth-grade language arts in the Winnisquam Regional School District for the next 20 years. She also coached the junior varsity and varsity high school cheerleaders, where she was affectionately known as “Lynee” to all. In 1983, Lynne moved to Gainesville, Fla., where she worked in retail, until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Lynne was a sports participant and fan, supporting her New York Yankees while living deep in the heart of Red Sox nation. She became an avid Gator fan and attended Florida football and baseball games regularly. Lynne remained active throughout her life and made friends easily wherever she went. She truly loved and honored those close to her, from the Terrible Ten in high school, to the Mojalaki gang in Tilton-Franklin, to the TOPs ladies and her gang at the mall in Gainesville. She adored her family and grandchildren above all else and was happiest when surrounded by “her” people.
She is survived by her son, Michael R. Piper of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her daughter, Penny L. Piper of Gainesville, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jordan, Greydon and Jamie Piper, all of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her four brothers, Timothy of Lee, Christopher of Leeds, Brian and Thomas Marble, both of Wilton; and two sisters-in-law, Gwen Dore of Aurora, Colo., and Marcia Biggane of Bangor.
Lynne was predeceased by her brother, Ronnie; and by her husband of 51 years, Donald G. Piper.
Tributes and memorials may be shared on her wall at www.wilesrc.com.
