AUBURN — David R. Young, 66, of Poland, died Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin with his family by his side.

Born in Lewiston on Nov. 30, 1944, he was the son of the late William and Marie (Ryan) Young. David moved to Brockton, Mass., at a young age and graduated from Brockton High School in 1963. He then married his high school sweetheart, the former Florence Hanson. Two weeks later, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was off to boot camp where he served for 10 years, including the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military career, he became a long-haul trucker for more than 23 years. Driving miles was his passion, often going from coast to coast, but to David, Maine was the prettiest state of all.

He loved NASCAR, classic cars, listening to the blues and loved taking his dog “Sadie-Marie” for car rides.

Besides his wife Florence, he is survived by three sons, Michael Young of Lewiston, David Young and his wife, Evawn, of Poland, and Chadwick Young of Manchester, Conn.; one daughter, Kelly Flynn, and her husband, Daniel, of Lake Asbury, Fla.; two sisters, Donna Milne of East Bridgewater, Mass., and Alice Staires and her life partner, Julie Staires, of Auburn; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one sister, Anne-Marie Randall.
