Do people remember election season? We are endlessly barraged with political ads on television and radio. Everyone is talking about the candidate that they prefer and about what their political philosophy is.
We are all saying that we can’t wait, though, until things get back to normal, and all the ads end and all the street signs are taken down that litter the highway as far as the eye can see.
The average Mainer has close to 300 days in the year to register to vote. There are endless cues that the election is coming. Why, then, would someone who is actually involved in the political process want to wait until Election Day to register? Maybe someone who never follows politics and is just told who to vote for on the last day as they are rushed out the door.
If a person cares about who is elected, he should be able to manage to register in the allotted time. As a citizen, it should be no big deal.
