BANGOR — Irene Weston Wing, beloved daughter of Lottie Foster Weston and Edward P. Weston, was born in Gardiner on Jan. 3, 1928, and died Oct. 15, at a local hospital.

Irene was one of five children in a home filled with love and music. Irene graduated from Gardiner High School, where she was a cheerleader and secretary and treasurer of her class. After high school, she married her childhood sweetheart, Elmer Wing, and they were married 53 years. Many nights they could be found out dancing.

Irene had some part-time jobs, but she loved the job of being a mother the most. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a wonderful friend. Irene loved to sew and made most family members one of her “quilts in a day.” She so enjoyed spending time and playing cards with her sisters and sisters-in-law.

Much of her time was spent rooting for the Red Sox and the Patriots. Her life was busy following all the activities of her children and grandchildren, hardly ever missing a recital, concert, or sporting event, from preschool soccer to college hockey.

Irene is survived by three children, son, David and his wife, Kris, of Greene, daughter, Nancy and her husband, Tom Lever, of Bangor and son, Dan and his wife, Belinda, of Brewer; three sisters, Dawn Hakala, Shirley Hanley and her husband, Peter and Bonnie Hayes and her husband, Phil; three sisters-in-law, Alma “Boots” Weston, Connie Wing and Cleda Sencabaugh; one brother-in-law, Rosario Santerre; and seven grandchildren, Joshua and Erin Wing, Scott and Brian Lever and Tim, Ricky and Olivia Wing.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Wing; a brother, Arthur “Bud” Weston; a brother-in-law, Robert Hakala; and a nephew, Arthur “Artie” Weston.
