AUGUSTA — Every Day Basics, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that relies on donations to provide basic needs to people in the Augusta area, is in danger of shutting down.
The Rev. Rebecca Grant, manager of the organization, said, “The mission of Every Day Basics is to provide basic needs that are vital to the creation and preservation of human dignity, self-esteem and the well-being of people. Every Day Basics accomplishes this through raising people’s awareness of the plight of others, becoming a resource for freely distributing necessities essential to the daily life and by building a broad community of inclusiveness.”
Volunteers say if they do not get donations, many will go without. Every Day Basics provides basic necessities. There are no residency or eligibility requirements and all are welcome. The agency is open from 1 to 4 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of the month at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Parish House.
Grant, who manages the organization, said there is a critical need for bars of soap, toilet paper, sanitary pads, powdered laundry detergent and diapers in order for them to open their doors on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays at the office of St. Mark’s or by calling 622-2424. Monetary donations may be mailed to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 9 Summer St, Augusta, ME 04330.
