LEWISTON — A breakfast will be held Sunday, Oct. 23, to help Luis Elwell of Auburn play in the All-American Bowl in Dallas, Texas in December. The breakfast will take place at Moose Creek Landing, across from Marden’s, organized by the Elwell family with the assistance of Bill Mellish, head chef at the restaurant. Tickets are $6, for a meal of two eggs, two pancakes, one meat, and coffee or orange juice. Seatings will be from 8 to 9, 9 to 10 or 10 to 11 a.m. Advance purchase of tickets is requested, either from the family or by stopping by Moose Creek Landing.

Elwell attended the Offense-Defense Tackle Football Camp this summer at Bryant College in Rhode Island. One of more than 200 football players from New England, he enjoyed the instruction, the drills and the practice games. He had been playing football since age five in the Auburn Rec League and the camp was an opportunity for him to test his abilities and develop his strengths in a larger arena. NFL affiliates and Patriots players visited the camp.

Luis was chosen one of four young football players from New England and the only one from Maine to participate in the All-American Bowl. The annual event, which draws outstanding players from the various regional football camps run by Offense-Defense, offers players developmental coaching from NFL and collegiate staff as well as the opportunity to play at least one game in Cowboys Stadium. The cost for the family of four is estimated at $4,000.

Luis has been performing mostly at the quarterback position, but is also considered at safety and linebacker. He loves football and does 150 push-ups a day, except for Saturday and Sunday, which are his “days off,” he says. He is a third-grader at Park Avenue Elementary School and has a sister, Maggie, at Auburn Middle School. Luis is the son of Fred and Claudia Elwell. Any and all contributions towards the trip expenses are appreciated. For more information, call the Elwells at 784-3799.
