BATH — Grammy-nominated vocalist Shemekia Copeland will bring her powerhouse blues music to the Chocolate Church Arts Center on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Copeland’s new CD, “Deluxe Edition,” combines soulful moments from her modern blues and R&B albums released on the Alligator label. Among the songs on the 16-track album are “Turn The Heat Up,” “Ghetto Child,” “Livin’ On Love and It’s 2 A.M.” and “Stay A Little Longer, Santa.”

At age 18, Copeland appeared on the music scene in 1998 with her groundbreaking debut CD, ” Turn The Heat Up,” and instantly became a blues superstar. She followed up with 2000’s Grammy-nominated “Wicked,” 2002’s “Talking To Strangers” and 2005’s “The Soul Truth.”

In that short period of time, Copeland earned eight Blues Music Awards, a host of Living Blues Awards (including the prestigious 2010 Blues Artist Of The Year) and more accolades from all over the world.

She appeared in the motion picture “Three To Tango” and her song “I Always Get My Man” was featured in the film “Broken Hearts Club.”

She was featured in the Martin Scorsese-produced concert film, “Lightning In A Bottle,” as well as on the PBS television series “The Blues.”

Copeland, who was born in Harlem in 1979, continues to tour worldwide. She has played with Buddy Guy and B.B. King and has shared the stage with Taj Mahal, Dr. John and Koko Taylor. She opened for The Rolling Stones in Chicago.

She performed at the 1998 and 2002 Chicago Blues Festivals, Milwaukee’s Summerfest and the North Atlantic Blues, Monterey Jazz, San Francisco Blues, New York State Blues, Montreux Jazz and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage festivals. She has played for U.S. troops in Kuwait and Iraq.
