DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love your column. You have helped me and others so many times. Sure hope you can help me again.

Years ago my husband was in Vietnam. When we went to Florida a few years ago and had occasion to be at the VA hospital in West Palm Beach, my husband found a flag “sticker” (for lack of a better word) that went on the back window of our car and measures maybe 8 inches long by 3 inches tall.

Years of weather has taken it off. I went up to Togus thinking maybe they had them but that was a lost cause. Can you or any of your readers help me find another? Sure would be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen them on a lot of cars but have no idea where they got them. Thanks! — Judy Baird, Lewiston

ANSWER: The list of websites that offer these decals online is long. Included among them are www.flagstickershop.com, www.edecals.com, www.embassyflag.com and www.customautotrim.com.

Earlier this month another writer inquired about an “in memory of” decal. Sun Spots found websites that sell them, but since then several readers have written in with local sources, including one that also offers flags. Their letters follow.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am emailing in regard to the Oct. 6 letter about memory decals for windows. There is a guy named Tony in Auburn who does these. He has done all the signs on my truck and the decals for my son’s friend’s sister who died recently. The business is Finishline Signz, 713-0954, finishlinesignz@aol.com. Hope this helps! He does great work. — Jen Smith, Mechanic Falls

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This letter is in response to J.W. of Jay’s request for “in memory’ decals for cars.

I got mine at the Sign Store and Flag Center, 325 Center St., Auburn, 784-4515. They do a great job and have very reasonable rates. — Penny, Durham

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the reader who asked for a place that does decals of “in memory of” and what the cost is.

I have had some made at the Fryeburg Fair. There is a booth that makes all kinds of decals and have them in plain view for you to see. They custom make them right there as you wait and are real reasonable in price.

Sorry the fair has gone by for this year, but there is always next year. Hope this helps. Love your column. Keep up the good service. — Ray Boies, Livermore Falls

DEAR SUN SPOTS:  Like so many, I very much enjoy your column.  A bit more information to the lady (Oct. 14) who is having problems with maple trees invading her shrubs. I’d like to add some advice to Jody Goodwin’s:

Yes, Roundup should be judiciously used, but I have found it necessary in some instances. However, covering the whole of the maple tree and not getting any on the shrub would be quite an undertaking. She should first cut back the maple tree as far down its stem as possible. This can be done rather easily with any of the long-handled loppers available, some of which can cut up to 2-inch limbs. She might want to investigate some of the ratchet-type loppers for this.

After cutting the tree back, apply the Roundup to the cut end remaining. This will allow for greater absorption and require far less of this product, as well as result in less impact on the surrounding plant and the environment.

Diligent watching and cutting back is the best prevention as the younger the tree the more easily it is eradicated. Best of luck! — No Name, Greene
