Food drive
NORWAY — The Norway Paris AARP group has joined a national fighting hunger program from Oct. 1 through Nov. 15. The first event will be a “Load a Boat” to be held at the Norway Savings Bank on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. for nonperishable items for local food pantries. The group is also asking businesses to collect items at their sites to be collected on Nov. 4.
Country Showdown
MECHANIC FALLS — The Northeast Invitational Country Showdown, hosted by the Down East Country Music Association, will be Oct. 22 and 23 at the Silver Spur, Route 121.
The competition will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The awards show will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23. Award winners from New England states will be participating.
Admission each day is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12. There will be a food bar, 50/50 drawing and raffles.

Bridge club
OXFORD — Oxford Bridge Club met Oct. 14 in the Rec Building. A six and half table Howell movement was enjoyed.
Finishing first in flight A were Luke Meery (New Gloucester) and Richard Balian (Waterford), second were Pat Quinn (Otisfield) and Georgette Jewell (Norway), third were Hazel Glazier (Norway) and Mike True (Lewiston), fourth were Karen MacNeill (Casco) and Marlee Turner (Casco) who also were first in flights B and C.
Second in flight B were Nancy Farmer (Norway) and Marta Clements (Woodstock), third were Jim Dickens (Naples) and Dave Kallander (Raymond) who also were second in flight C.
Finishing third in flight C were Carol Curran (Bridgton) and Kathy Feld (Lovell).
