FREEPORT — The annual assembly of the Maine Council of Churches will honor faith in action on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Freeport Garden Hilton, 5 Park St. This year’s honorees are Mayor Larry Gilbert and the Jubilee Center, both of Lewiston.

The breakfast begins at 8:30 and the assembly is at 10:30. The breakfast benefits the Maine Council of Churches, a statewide association of nine denominations working to help congregations build sustainable community through practicing environmental and economic justice in our own neighborhoods and beyond. Both Mayor Gilbert and the Jubilee Center are examples of this principle.

In addition, Secretary of State Charles Summers will honor the founding of the Maine Sunday School Association in 1911, the predecessor to the Maine Council of Churches.

The featured speaker will be Max Finberg, director of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. For more information, contact Martha Stein of the Maine Council of Churches at [email protected] or call 772-1918. The website is www.mainecouncilofchurches.org.
