Lewiston Fire Chief Paul LeClair speaks during a memorial dedication at Central Fire Station on Saturday. A granite monument was dedicated to nine Lewiston firefighters killed in the line of duty since 1909. Family members of Pvt. Marcien Vallee, Pvt. Paul Nadeau, Lt. Emilien Couture and Pvt. Gerard Desjardins were present during the ceremony. The $12,000 memorial and groundwork was paid for by the International Association of Firefighters Local 785.
Assistant Lewiston Fire Chief Bruce McKay talks with Anita Collins of Old Orchard Beach following the memorial dedication at Central Fire Station on Saturday. Collins, a Lewiston native, is the niece of Pvt. Paul Nadeau, a Lewiston firefighter killed in the line of duty in 1966. Nadeau is one of nine firefighters memorialized by a monument in front of Central Fire Station. Seated next to Collins are Pauline Shufeldt of South Portland and Janice Beaudoin of Lewiston.
