FAYETTE — People seeking burn permits in town will need to call a local fire warden or seek permits online through the Maine Forest Service after the end of October.
Firefighters will take a break from manning the fire station on Saturdays and Sundays at that time. The service will resume in the spring of 2012, fire Chief Marty Maxwell said.
Those wanting permits are asked to wait until after 9 a.m. before calling a warden. The state does not post the class of fire day until then.

The wardens’ phone numbers are also available on the town’s website, www.fayettemaine.com, under the Fire Department heading, at the Fayette store, and posted at the town office.
To get a fire permit online through the Maine Fire Service, go to www.maine.gov/burnpermit/. A fire permit from this site is only valid on class 1 and class 2 days.
A person applying for a permit will need a computer, a credit card and a printer. A permit will be issued for up to 48 hours, Maxwell said.
The cost of getting a permit online is $7.
