BEDFORD, N.H. — Frederick Allen Moore, formerly of Rumford and Wayne, died Oct. 22.

He was born July 11, 1918, the son of Clifford and Pearl Yeo Moore in Harmony, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He attended school in both PEI and Rumford.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy during WW II aboard the USS Garrard (APA 84), a troop transport ship. He was aboard the ship in Tokyo Bay when the surrender papers were signed ending the war. Proud of his service, he maintained a membership in the Rumford VFW.

After the war, he worked for 40 years as an operator on the super-calendars at the Rumford paper mill for both the Oxford and Boise Cascade paper companies.

In 1946, he married Gwen Parker. They lived in Rumford until Fred retired in 1980, at which time they moved to Wayne. They recently moved into an assisted living facility in Bedford, N.H.

Fred infected his sons and sons-in-law with his love of deer hunting, instigating the annual foray to Hunter’s Haven in both Newry and Aroostook County.

Fred is survived by his loving wife; his son, Terry Moore of Rumford; his daughters, Karen Arsenault of Manchester, N.H., Judy White of Essex, Vt., Brenda Wurrey of Londonderry, N.H., and their spouses; Ray Arsenault, Frank White and Fred Wurrey; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Dick, and daughter-in-law, Pauline Moore.
