LEWISTON — Joseph M. Klimek, 90, of 8 Willow Circle, died Saturday, Oct. 22, after a long illness at the home of his longtime neighbor, friend and sweetheart, Shirley LaBrie.

He was born in Lewiston on April 8, 1921, the son of Michael and Florence (Horzampa) Klimek. He was educated in Lewiston schools. Joe served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Joe was self-employed as a finish carpenter and was very much in demand through word of mouth for his carpentry work.

Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in 1957, Joe and his brother Emil built a 17-foot cabin cruiser. Many fishing trips were enjoyed on Bailey’s Island and Sebago Lake with family and friends.

He was a very caring person and was always there to give a helping hand to family, neighbors and friends. Joe also dedicated many years to his special cousin, Donald Yurchuk, who was a paraplegic from his service during World War II.

He was a lifetime member of St. Patrick’s Church and later attended the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
