Maine native Patrick Meservier of Harrison has written two books, “Essences” and “A Christmas Tale.”
In “Essences,” the main character, Gary Morris, is an ordinary man, but he has gift. He has the ability to have his soul, or essence, slip out of his body at will. This gift presents itself when he becomes sick with vertigo.
While on vacation, Gary accidentally exits his body as he and his wife drive down the highway. He enters a world where people are ghostly images of their former selves.
Among the millions of essences walking the middle plane, Gary’s position is unique because he has a body to slip back into, a place to call home. He learns to his horror that his body, without his essence, is prime real estate and any essence can occupy it.
Gary seeks help from a man called the Preacher, who, in turns out, collects bodies and sells them to the highest bidder — and Gary’s body is now for sale.
In “A Christmas Tale,” Frank is given an old box containing sand and some magic trick at the company’s Christmas party. Others in the firm receive beautiful treasures from the owner’s worldwide travels. Is it because he is the newest employee or perhaps maybe his work isn’t on par with his peers? Frank is disheartened.
Later that night, the old box reveals its true purpose and from whom it comes. Thus begins Frank’s seven-day journey of heart-breaking and enlightening experiences focusing on hope and Christmas.
Both titles are available for Kindles at Amazon.com.
Meservier was born in Lewiston in May 1963. He enjoys expressing himself artistically through building, painting and writing. He is working on his next novel, “Joan Darcy and The 27th Observer.”
