LISBON — Two Lewiston women were injured when their car slammed into a utility pole beside Route 196 on Tuesday.

Police officer Richard St. Amant identified the driver as Diane Michaud, 55, and her passenger as Carole Sanders, 81. Michaud complained of leg, chest and abdominal pain and Sanders suffered leg pain and dizziness, he said.

They were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where Sanders was listed in fair condition Tuesday night, a CMMC nursing supervisor said. Michaud’s status was not available.

St. Amant said Michaud was driving east near the intersection of Littlefield Road when she crossed the centerline into the westbound lane, went off the road and struck a utility pole. He said she may have “possibly suffered a medical incident” just prior to the crash.

The pole had to be replaced but power was not disrupted, he said.

Michaud’s 2001 four-door Chevrolet Cavalier was demolished in the 12:57 p.m. accident.
