AUBURN — According to the Calorie Control Council, the average number of calories in Thanksgiving dinner can reach 4,500, along with a heaping helping of 229 grams of fat. In preparation for this calorie onslaught, the Auburn Public Library has announced the start of Thanksgiving Turkey Training Camp to be held throughout the month of November.

The Thanksgiving Training Camp will feature exercise and nutritional programs to help overcome the holiday exhaustion and gluttony. Those who attend all three programs throughout November will receive special recognition.

On Thursday, Nov. 3, Training Camp kicks off. At noon, the library will host an indoor bowling tournament in the Androscoggin Room. At 6 p.m. there will be a Zumba Dance Team demonstration. Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program that blends exciting international music and easy to perform steps and moves. The music heard during Zumba is commonly mambo, merengue, flamenco, cumbia, salsa, samba, hip hop and tango. Those in attendance are encouraged to take part.

Kendall Scott, certified holistic health and nutrition coach, will present “Eating for Energy” at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14. Learn how food affects the body, mind and emotions as well as which foods boost energy. The presentation will also include a discussion of holistic nutrition, “super” foods, raw food and a demonstration on how to make a power smoothie.

All of the programs are free to the public. For more information, call Martin Gagnon at 333-6640, ext. 4.
