FRYEBURG — A local man is in critical condition after he was injured Tuesday when cutting branches off a tree in his yard.

Jean-Claude Landry, who police Lt. Michael McAllister said is in his 70s, sustained head and facial injuries when a branch fell on him after he climbed down the ladder. The branch knocked Landry unconscious.

The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday on Landry’s property at 146 Hemlock Bridge Road. Landry was cutting a large branch with an electric chain saw, McAllister said. The chainsaw did not injure Landry, he said.

Landry was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

Fryeburg police, fire and rescue responded to the accident.
