Johnny Stewart of Bangor meets “Kid” Mercier of Lawrence, Mass. tonight, in two six round bouts, in Lewiston City Hall. The bouts are under the management of “Genial Joe” Chevalier. Mercier and Stewart have both been in town since Tuesday and are in shape for a fast bout.
Young Banks and Joe Gardner meet in the semifinal for six rounds and Young Laroche meets Young Arthur in the preliminary. There has been a large sale of seats for the bouts, which start at 8:30 o’clock.
50 years ago, 1961
Joseph A. Cloutier of 102 Mill St., Auburn, well known vocal soloist, will be one of the featured entertainers at the variety show that will be sponsored Nov. 10 by the League of French Societies at Lewiston City Hall. He is a graduate of the Mainente School of Music, and has auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera in Boston and the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour.

DURHAM — The Durham Jaycees have taken on the job of making improvements at Runaround Pond Park, with funding provided by the Conservation Commission.
Loam, grading and seeding is now being done and the Jaycees will be placing picnic tables and barrels at the park in the spring, a spokesman said.
