PARIS — Seven police departments in Oxford County, as well as the Sheriff’s Office, are participating in Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday with nine locations for residents to drop off their unused prescriptions.
Residents can safely dispose of medications before they can get into the wrong hands or into the environment. According to a release from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, the majority of abused prescription drugs come from family and friends, including home medicine cabinets.
The event is nationwide. A federal Drug Enforcement Administration agent told the Bangor Daily News on Monday that Maine residents turned in the most medication per capita than any other state on April on the most recent take-back day.
On Saturday the Norway, Oxford, Paris, Mexico, Rumford, Dixfield and Fryeburg police departments will be collecting unused medications, as will the Sheriff’s offices in Paris and Bethel, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
