Halloween festival

NORWAY — Halloween is coming to Main Street on Friday, Oct. 28. Children and adults from everywhere are invited to dress up and participate in the Norway Halloween Festival from 2 to 5 p.m.

Trick or treat on Main Street, ‘Start Where You Park.’ Maps and trick or treat bags will be available at the fire station, library, town square and Ari’s. There will be crafts, games and raffles.

Oakie, Newbie, Baxter, Mr. Pizza, Samantha The Skunk, Cat In The Hat and more will be on hand. Sparky and his friend Smokey The Bear will be at the fire station with the smoke trailer and popcorn.

The library will feature Witches Brew and Goblin Treats; ghost stories will be held at 3 and 4 p.m., Neveah will perform at 3:20.

Businesses on Main Street will have a pumpkin on their door if they are participating.

Halloween party

OXFORD — A Halloween party for Oxford kids will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Community Center, 223 Main St.

A scavenger hunt will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Students in grades 4 through 6 need chaperons. Teens are welcome.

From 5 to 7 there will be games, including a pumpkin toss, spider toss, plinko, sawdust pile of goodies, can toss, doughnut on a string, picture frame making, costume judging and spook walk. Refreshments will be served. For more information contact Pam Lovely at 539-4563.

DENMARK — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a Girl Scout sampler and parent information and registration meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Denmark-Brownfield Elementary School.

Girls and adults are invited to attend the meeting to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best.

E-book intro

PARIS — The Paris Public Library will provide an “Introduction to E-book Readers” program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. The goal of this program will be to provide useful information to anyone considering purchasing an e-book reader.

Discussion will include the various models that are available and various sources of e-books, including the library. Anyone who already owns an e-book reader is invited to share tips or reviews with other owners or prospective buyers.

Library speaker

BRYANT POND — Retired state trooper, Percy Turner, will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. He will speak on the topic of the Littlefield murders and “Thunder Over So. Parish” that occurred in South Paris many years ago. The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Veterans Day

PARIS — This year’s Veterans Day ceremony, hosted by the Oxford, Norway and South Paris American Legions, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 11, at the auditorium of the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Refreshments to be served after the ceremony.

Chili, rock ‘n roll

BUCKFIELD — The Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters will hold the 2nd annual Chili and Rock ‘n Roll event at Buckfield Jr./Sr High School on Saturday, Nov. 12. The event features a chili cook-off with judging open to the community at 5:30 and a free concert by the Rockin’ Roadrunners beginning at 6.

Holiday showcase

PARIS — The Western Maine Harness Horseman’s Association will hold their first Holiday Showcase from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Paris Fire Station, 137 Western Ave.

Local independent distributors and crafters will be under one roof for holiday shopping. Included will be Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Avon, Lia Sophia, Mary Kay, jewelry items, photography, pet accessories, Christmas items, cash-and-carry items, gift baskets and more.
