DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if there is a way for me to get printouts of old stories done on the Chipman Farm in Poland. I can distinctly remember a photo of our strawberries that was on the front page once, and I would love to have that picture. I can’t seem to find it on the online archives though. Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. — Tomi Chipman, [email protected]

ANSWER: There are many, many photos of Chipman Farm on the Sun Journal website. Over the years the newspaper’s photographers have shot pictures there during all seasons, including several photos and stories featuring strawberries.

If you go to sunjournal.com and search for “Chipman Farm, Poland, strawberries,” you will turn up a bunch of photos. You could also vary the search by using Harvest Hill, which is often mentioned in the captions.

Once you locate a photo you want, the rest is easy. You just click the link “buy a print,” and easy-to-follow instructions will appear.

You didn’t say when the photo you were looking for was published. There are some months that are missing online from the period during which the Sun Journal was transferring to a new computer system. In some cases, they are missing altogether. In others, the caption appears but not the photo. Photographer Amber Waterman was kind enough to re-link one such photo.

If you can provide more details, Sun Spots will try to help you look. Alternatively, if you can remember which photographer shot the photo, they may still have it in their computer.

Lastly, Amber pointed out that there are limits as to how you can use these photos, which remain the property of the Sun Journal. That fact should be noted if the photos are publicly displayed. They are meant for your personal use only and cannot be used in advertisements or on a website.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our Catholic Charities SEARCH program (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage & Hope) relies almost entirely on the help of volunteers to provide our friendly visiting, telephone reassurance and transportation support to lonely isolated seniors, and those with disabilities, throughout Androscoggin County. Since we continue to have great success in recruiting volunteers through Sun Spots, we are turning to your column again for help.

Every year at this time, as winter approaches, we see an increased demand for our services. We currently have eight clients on our waiting list, from the Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon Falls, Livermore and Mechanic Falls areas, who are quite lonely and would love to receive friendly visits from a caring volunteer. Many of them are seniors who live alone and have no transportation, so they need help with their errands, getting to appointments or going grocery shopping. Since many of them are lonely, a friendly visit each week helps to lift their spirits and helps them feel less isolated.
