LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen said their decision to uphold the town manager’s firing of veteran Assistant Fire Chief Ron Leclerc was based on his “insubordinate” interactions with his supervisors after an emergency situation, a letter from the board said.

The board voted Monday to uphold Town Manger Kristal Flagg’s termination of Leclerc on Sept. 20.

The decision followed a 70-minute executive session that included a hearing before the board on Leclerc’s appeal of Flagg’s decision.

“While the board understands that you took action during an emergency situation, it was your subsequent interaction with the fire Chief (Gerry Pineau) and town manager in regard to this matter that is problematic,” Chairman William Demaray wrote to Leclerc. “After careful review of this matter, the board finds that your actions with regard to the fire chief and town manager were insubordinate.”

Leclerc, of Jay, declined comment on his termination.

Leclerc had been a Livermore Falls Fire Department officer for 30 years and served as assistant chief from 1981 to 1990, and 1995 to 2004, and from July 1, 2009, to Sept. 20, 2011. He served as fire chief from 1990 to 1995. He has about 37 years of firefighting experience in Livermore Falls.

The board also affirmed Flagg’s decision on Oct. 3 to terminate Leclerc’s son, Fire Department Lt. Corey Leclerc of Livermore Falls in an unrelated matter in June.
