Nevertheless, all that and more will happen in the Community Little Theatre’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” opening Friday, Nov. 4, on the Lewiston Middle School stage.

This timeless classic is the first show of CLT’s 72nd season, and it’s presented in collaboration with the Edward Little High School drama club.

“I am very pleased with our cast of more than 50 people ranging in age from 4 to 74,” said director Mitchell Clyde Thomas.

He noted that the production has a large singing-dancing ensemble of villagers, merchants, maidens and palace guests, along with 15 leading and supporting characters.

Because renovation work is under way at CLT’s permanent home at Great Falls Arts Center on Academy Street in Auburn, this show will be staged at Lewiston Middle School, where CLT presents its major summer musicals.

However, sets and large props are being built in the gymnasium of the Auburn location and they will be transported to the Lewiston school.

“It’s just like a Santa’s workshop in the gym with everyone scurrying around with paint brushes and tools,” said Thomas, who is CLT’s artistic director.

As the show’s song goes, “impossible things are happening every day,” and rehearsals and hard work will lead to such theatrical marvels as a cat becoming a coachman, four white mice becoming horses and a dove becoming a footman.

The show’s musical numbers include “Impossible,” “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” “The Sweetest Sounds,” “The Prince Is Giving A Ball,” “In My Own Little Corner,” “Fol-De-Rol,” “The Cinderella Waltz,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” “Stepsisters’ Lament,” “A Lovely Night” and “There’s Music In You.”

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” started as a 1957 television movie starring Julie Andrews and it was one of the most widely viewed programs in TV history. Its second version in 1965 was equally successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was another remake in 1997 starring Brandy and Whitney Houston. That latest adaptation is the version CLT will present.

Kristin Korda, a former Miss Maine Outstanding Teen, plays the title role. A resident of Saco, Korda has performed in theaters all around coastal and southern Maine. She played Emily in CLT’s production of “A Christmas Carol” last December.

Tiffany Warren, a Michigan native who now lives in Lewiston, plays Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. Warren appeared in “Once On This Island” and last season’s “Children of Eden.” Megan Guynes, a recent Bates College graduate from Los Angeles, will appear as Cinderella’s stepmother. Guynes also appeared in “Once On This Island.”

Crystal Packard of Lewiston plays Grace, the awkward stepsister, and Jacquelyn Mansfield of South Portland plays Joy, her sullen stepsister.

James Kramlich of Raymond portrays Christopher, the charming young prince. He is a veteran of CLT productions, including “Footloose” and “Kiss Me Kate.“

Jason Pelletier is the prince’s royal steward; Tracy Kapocius of Topsham is his mother, Queen Constantina; and CLT veteran Dan Crawford of Auburn plays his father, King Maximillian.

Other cast members are Phil Vampatella, Robert Baskett, Dan Burgess, Peter Cyr, Ben Proctor, Emily Sousie, Chiara Ferrante, Meridith Crawford, Olivia Mayo, Kymberly Couch, Riley McCurdy, Drew Masse, Tamarick Peters, Paige Berube, Scott Emery, Jacynthe Jacques, Stefanie Lynn, Audrey Martin and Caelin Moore.

The younger children in the cast are Susie Strickland, Lauryn Griffey-Parks, Mia-Angelina Leslie, Sophie Wood, Maddy Leslie, Katie Luu, Mai Luu, Isabella Doucette-St. Onge, Elias Doucette-St. Onge, Emma Jacques, Laura Jacques, Jillian Rombalski, Ethan Rombalski, Chris Dumont, Sophie Bilodeau, Evelyn Bilodeau, Luka Baskett, Sophia Baskett, Dominique Cyr, Hailey Turcotte, Hunter Emery, Tyler Murray, Sophie Messina, Hayden Thomas and Elias Thomas.
