I am writing in support of Question 2 and Question 3 on the ballot this November.

A casino in Lewiston will provide jobs and will create an economic spark that is badly needed in the Twin Cities. I like the comprehensive concept that includes a hotel and conference center. While the gaming aspect will be a solid draw, the other parts of the complex should not be overlooked.

I also support the development of racinos. Passage of Question 2 allows racinos to be built in Biddeford by Ocean Properties and in Washington County by the Passamaquoddy Tribe.

Both communities want these developments, and they have voted by wide margins in favor of them. Now they are depending on a statewide vote, and I think we should honor their decisions.

The projects help preserve an estimated 2,500 jobs in harness racing, agriculture and related fields, including farmers, horse breeders and small business owners.

There is a big enough market for gaming operations in Lewiston, Biddeford and Calais, and the racino venues will be a different type of attraction, compared to Lewiston’s casino.

We should approve both questions and let the free market work.
