WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The city of Worcester is asking people to wait until Thursday to go trick-or-treating.

Halloween is Monday, but the Worcester Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/vJ2axp) reports that city officials are afraid that piles of snow, fallen trees and darkened streets will make it unsafe for kids to go door to door.

City Manager Michael V. O’Brien tells the paper that the city needs time to clean up.

By Thursday, temperatures are forecast to be in the 60s and officials hope everyone will have their power back. Right now hundreds of thousands of people across Massachusetts are in the dark.

O’Brien says he’s not sure the city charter gives him the power to move the holiday, but believes city residents will work with him to make sure kids stay safe.
