AUBURN — Alton “Buster” Wing, 83, of Dixfield, died Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Hospice House.

He was born March 16, 1928, in Mexico, the son of Archie and Rose (Richards) Wing. He attended local schools and received an honorary degree from Dirigo High School. He served in the Seabees and Army during World War II and on May 1, 1948, married Jessie Steward. He was employed at Oxford Paper Co. and then later worked as a custodian at Dirigo and as a bus driver/custodian at SAD 21 Region 9 Vocational Technical School.

He was a member of King Hiram Masonic Lodge 57, the Rumford Snowshoe Club, American Legion Post 0100 of Dixfield and the Poodunck Snowmobile Club. His favorite hobby was attending Blistered Fingers Blue Grass Festivals, where he enjoyed the music, dancing and comraderie. He loved doing woodworking in his free time and was noted for making his famous tables that “he sold too cheap.”

He is survived by his wife, Jessie of Dixfield; daughters, Barbara Moody and her husband, Reggie, of Madison, Carol Colby and her husband, Paul of Auburn and Penny Lane and her husband, David, of Gettysburg, Pa.; brothers, George Wing and Archie Wing Jr. and his wife, Charlene, all of Peru and Alfred Wing of Canton; sister, Florence Porter and her husband, Frank, of Dixfield; eight grandchildren, Melissa and Shawn Newcomb, Matthew and Misty Colby, Carrie and Jesse Gueydan and Nathan and Brianna Lane; and two

great-grandchildren, Wyatt Lane and Lili Gueydan.
