Salute to veterans

LEWISTON — The Auburn Exchange Club will presented the third annual Salute to Veterans at noon Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Green Ladle, East Avenue.

Featured speaker will be Rep. Mike Michaud, member of the House Committee on Veteran’s Affairs. A Lewiston Veterans Center staff member will also be on hand to answer questions on veterans services.

The event is free, but donations are welcome. Seating is limited and reservations by Friday, Nov. 4, are requested. Call Dave Projansky at 240-0507 or [email protected], or John Reid at 777- 3579.

Turkey dinner

AUBURN — Members of the Golden Age Group, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, will have a turkey dinner, served by the CMCC culinary arts students, at noon Tuesday, Nov. 8. Members will attend a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church in honor of their deceased members.

Reservations may be made by calling Paula at 576-4082 and payment must be made no later than Wednesday, Nov. 2. Paula will be at Sacred Heart Church Hall from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 2 to accommodate anyone who has not yet sent their payment in.

Fortier Chapter

LEWISTON — Dr. Paul J. Fortier Council 52, Royal Arcanum-ACA Division, will gather at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in the senior citizens room of the Multi-Purpose Center. Following the meeting, there will be refreshments during a social time. For more information, call council president/regent Dolores Poirier at 782-8109.

Commander to visit

SABATTUS — Newly elected American Legion National Commander Fang A. Wong will make his official visit to the state on Friday through Sunday, Nov. 4 to 6.

He will visit five posts, and Post 135, Island Road, was selected to serve on Saturday, Nov. 5. Wong is expected to arrive around noon and after the meal he will visit with members and guests in the main hall. All veterans in the area are welcome.

The luncheon, a mini-shore dinner, will be by reservation only. The cost will be $6 a person. Seating is limited. For more information, call the post at 375-4639 or Ron/Joan Caron at 375-4639.

Thank-you service

NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society and Lunn-Hunnewell Amvets Post 6 will sponsor a “Thank You To All Who Served” ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the New Gloucester History Barn behind the Town Hall, Route 231.

The ceremony will honor New Gloucester residents who have served and serve in the armed services, going back to the nation’s earliest conflicts. Lists have been compiled and will be posted at the ceremony. The public is invited.

Retired teachers

AUBURN — The Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church.

Note this is a change. The meeting will not be held at CMCC as originally scheduled due to a scheduling conflict. Lunch will be served by the Park Avenue Methodist Church women The menu will be lasagna roll-ups (meatless for vegetarians), tossed salad, garlic bread and gingerbread with whipped cream. The cost is $10.

A short business meeting will be held, followed by Peter Robinson, who will speak about “E-Books.”

Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to a local food pantry. In lieu of a food item, donations will be accepted.

All educators, secretaries and other support personnel and spouses are welcome to attend.  Reservations must be made by Saturday, Nov. 5, and sent to Richard and Yvonne Gross, 57 County Road, Turner ME 04282.

Bridge results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club winners of the club appreciation game at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 25 were as follows: first,   Jeanine Kivus and Luke Merry; second, Richard Balian and Pete Cummings; third, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe;  fourth, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; first in B, Richard Balian and Pete Cummins; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; first in C, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe;  second, Debra Gardner and Mary Ann Trafton.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Mulit-Purpose Center on Oct. 27 were: first, Roland Bosse and Ed Madden; second, Aaron Burke and Roger Briggs; third, Roger Patry and Ron Jean; fourth, Jeanne Collette and Sandy Verrille; fifth, Mickie and Arnie Burgess.
