CUMBERLAND — Auburn JV fourth and fifth-grade football teams went 1-1-1 at the Halloween Bowl.

Auburn started the day off by defeating the Brunswick Packers 8-0. Auburn scored on a 55-yard run by Devonte Rembert. The defense secured the shutout with key play from defensive linemen Will Fletcher, Bobby Tremaine, Tyler Chute, Noah Jordan, Ben Hallet, Kobe Thomas and Josh Chessey. Storm Jipson, Giles Paradie and Caleb Yarnevich also picked up yardage for Auburn.

In the most exciting game of the year, the young Auburn team tied a very talented all fifth-grade team from Cape Elizabeth, 8-8.

The youthful and undersized local team played perhaps its best game of the year. Linebackers Giles Paradie and Dakota Bosquet stopped a tough running game up the middle. Cornerback Dan Milks was the big hitter on the outside with several bone-jarring hits. Will Fletcher was constantly in the backfield, and he recovered a key fumble caused by defensive end Jipson.

Caleb Yarnevich made two big tackles on fourth downs to stop Capers drives, and he combined with Jipson for a 17-yard sack of the QB on another fourth down. In a key drive for the local 11 with minutes to go, Yarnevich ran for 17 yards, Jipson had a 19 yard run, Rembert went for 20, and Paradie had three runs of 8 yards or more before capping it off with a 1-yard TD run. A key play in the drive was an 11-yard pass from Rembert to Yarnevich on a fourth-and-10 play.

In the last game of the day, Auburn lost to an undefeated Greely team, 12-0, the first time it was shut out all season. Cooper Watkins had a fumble recovery, while defensive linemen Tremaine, Thomas and Fletcher played well. Milks was a leading ground gainer, and Auburn completed two long passes from Yarnevich to Rembert and Paradie. Michael Derosiers and Logan Little provided support at cornerback.

Auburn completed the season with a 8-2-1 record and will celebrate with a banquet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hasty Memorial Armory. A huge thank-you goes out to League Director Joe Toner for his effort and and providing a great season for the Auburn Football program.
