RUMFORD — Charles E. Mercier, 93, formerly of Poplar Hill Road, Mexico, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Rumford Community Home, following a brief illness.

He was born in Canada, Oct. 28, 1918, a son of Paul and Aglae (Chouinard) Mercier, and was educated in Canadian schools.

He married Yvette C. (Thibodeau) on May 28, 1946, and together they celebrated 64 years of marriage. She passed away on May 22, 2010.

Charles was employed as a carpenter in the construction industry. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Cecile (Mathieu) Mercier of Auburn and Cecile (Gosselin) Mercier of Sherbrooke, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Yvette; five brothers, Eddie, Armand, Paul-Emile, Alphonse and Gaston Mercier; and two sisters, Jeanette Guay and Jeanne D’arc Bilodeau.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ledesma and the wonderful staff at the Rumford Community Home for the excellent care given to Charles.
