I write to thank and congratulate the Edward Little High School Speech and Debate Team, the Auburn Police Department and all others responsible for holding the City Council candidate debate on Oct. 24. I was unable to attend the debate and so felt most grateful to be able to view it on our local cable station.
This election year it seems like an especially important responsibility to select a council that will work well together to make decisions for the future of Auburn that is in the best interest of the citizens of Auburn – all of us who treasure this great city that we call our home.
The students who participated in this debate, and asked the hard questions of the candidates, presented a dramatic picture of all the reasons we want our young to stay or return to our city to live among us and to make their valuable contributions. They were intelligent, poised, spoke clearly and with confidence. It was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into the preparation for this event – although the time frame was a short one.
It was an informative debate. The team did an outstanding job.
