New temple class

AUBURN — A new adult education series will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Temple Shalom about Ketuvim (Writings), the third section of the Hebrew Bible, which follows the Torah and the Prophets.

The Writings section includes the Psalms, Proverbs, Ruth, Esther, Daniel, Lamentations and Song of Songs. The course will complete the synagogue’s adult education survey of the Hebrew Bible.

Rabbi Hillel Katzir, spiritual leader of Temple Shalom, will be the instructor. The class will meet for five Thursdays, Nov. 3 through Dec. 15, with no meeting on the Thursday of Thanksgiving.

There is no cost for temple members. Nonmembers will pay a registration fee of $25. Preregister with the office at 786-4201 or email at [email protected]

Club fundraiser

MANCHESTER — The Monmouth Garden Club will hold a fundraising breakfast and lunch at Longfellow’s Greenhouse art show, Puddledock Road.

Breakfast of quiche, applesauce, coffee and mulled cider will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. A lunch of speciality soups and breads will follow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $5 for a meal.

A “Spring Flowers” quilt winning raffle ticket will be chosen at 2 p.m.

Barker Mill fair

AUBURN — A Christmas Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Barker Mill Arms, 143 Mill St. Chances will be sold on a 50/50 and food baskets and there will be door prizes. Doughnuts and coffee will be available and lunch will include hot dogs, soda and chips or meatball sub or pint of beans. Homemade goodies will also be available.

AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at the United Methodist Church, Park Avenue, under the direction of President Bonnie Ross.

Karen Flynn, registered nurse and director of the hospice program for Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, will be the guest speaker. She has been the Hospice House manager since its opening in November 2005.

The hostesses for the meeting will be Chairwoman Annie Ray assisted by Evelyn Larrabee, Elaine Sylvester and Lucille Oldham. All members are encouraged to attend.

Lakeside to meet

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Masonic Building, 322 Centre Road.

Plans will be made to deck the Lakeside tree for the FEZtival of Trees at Kora Temple.

Lakeside Chapter will celebrate the Landmarks of the Order and members will renew their obligation. Past matrons and past patrons will be honored. There will be light refreshments after the meeting. All members are invited.

Museum hours cut

LEWISTON — In an effort to conserve on heat, electricity, and commuting expenses in the coming cold-weather months, Museum L-A is adopting a new schedule.

The museum is now open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. In addition, the museum will be close Nov. 23 and reopen Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday as well as the Saturdays, Dec. 24 and 31, for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
