WINTHROP — Dorothy Gile, 91, of North Monmouth, died Friday, Nov. 4, at Winthrop Manor in Winthrop.

She was born in North Monmouth on April 4, 1920, the daughter of Harvey and Helen Adams Shepard. Dorothy graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1996 after attending the Adult Education Program. She also graduated with a one-year certificate from the Altheia Bible Institute in South Berwick.

She married Wellington “Jud” Gile on June 5, 1937, in Wayne. Dorothy was a homemaker. She enjoyed keeping their home and caring for their children. She was a Cub Scout den mother while her boys were growing up; she enjoyed knitting, she always put everyone else first and loved spending time with her family.

Dorothy was member of the North Monmouth Community Church for 86 years and taught Sunday school there for more than 50 years.

She is survived by three sons, Harvey C. Gile and his wife, Marie, of Lansing, Mich., Herman E. Gile and his wife, Carolyn, of Sidney, and James S. Gile of Winthrop; three grandchildren, David Gile and wife, Lori, of North Monmouth, Deborah Thiboutot and husband, Darren, of Topsham, and Erika Gile of Winthrop; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Wellington; and a brother, Herman Shepard.
