This is in response to Doug Taylor’s letter, printed Oct. 27. He was disappointed to find a clergyman blessing animals instead of addressing violence.

The blessing of the animals took place Oct. 4 and was in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, who loved all God’s animals. Everyone was invited, and their animals, hoping to create unity in the community. There were special prayers and singing.

As for protesting against violence, why not investigate the cause and find remedies? Yelling and screaming for justice to be done does not solve anything.

With so many things going wrong with the economy and in society, people become desperate and often act out violently.

The media focuses too much on evils going on and not enough on the good that many people are doing to help the needy. And many do not know where they can find help. The front pages of any phone book list all kinds of organizations that offer various types of aid.

I encourage anyone, if in trouble, to seek counsel from the clergy, a counselor or a lawyer.
