CARATUNK, Maine (AP) — The Maine Warden Service says a Madison man suffered broken ribs and other injuries when his all-terrain vehicle crashed in Caratunk.

Authorities say 60-year-old Glenn Dow was with three other ATV riders traveling north near Chase Pond at about 30 miles per hour at 9 a.m. Sunday when the rear axle on his vehicle broke and the right rear tire flew off.

Witnesses told authorities that Dow fell from the machine and ended up in a ditch where he hit his head on a rock. He did not suffer severe head injuries because he was wearing a helmet.

He was flown to a Bangor hospital for treatment of broken ribs, and injuries to his shoulder and knee. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
