DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you tell me if know of anyone who makes jester hats for children? Thank you. — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots has no one in her Rolodex under jester hats. There are numerous websites with jester hats for sale, including at anytimecostumes.com. Amazon.com advertises children’s versions, although they aren’t cheap ($19.99).

Perhaps readers will know of someone locally who makes or sells them.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love this column; I pick up such useful and interesting information. I would like to try my luck at finding an item. I am looking for a set of fake fireplace logs that have a color wheel light to imitate a burning fireplace. Many of us had them in the 1950s and ’60s, along with the cardboard mantle setup. I am willing to pay a reasonable price. I can be reached at: 336-2201. Thanks. — Gloria Hall, ghalltc23@hotmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: With the upcoming Nov. 8 election, I would like to know if there are any write-in candidates “running” in the city of Auburn on the municipal level and where I could find this information. Thank you. — No Name via email

ANSWER: City Reporter Scott Taylor put together a thorough rundown of the candidates for Auburn and Lewiston, including announced write-in candidates. The stories and profiles have been running in the Sun Journal over the past week. You can also view the whole package, including videos of some candidates, at sunjournal.com/election/2011/

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just noticed that PetQuarters in Auburn is now closed. Do you or any readers know what might have become of the store “mascot” Jupiter, the handicapped orange cat? He is such a wonderful cat. I hope someone has taken him into their home. — Patti Morse, malone.patti@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t know, but she hopes readers do. She’d like to hear the answer.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there a phone number for Yahoo or Yahoo customer service that actually works? I have a situation I would like to discuss with them. I have emailed them, but they seem to avoid what I would like to discuss. — Philip, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots found three phone numbers online. These two, 866-562-7219 and 408-349-1572, are answered with the “Yahoo” call you hear on commercials. The other number, 408-349-3300, appears to be the main number for the corporate office.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the Oct. 25 column, I use 100 percent of my bars of soap. Before they become too small to use, I get a new bar of soap and use it until it is good and moist. Then I use the smaller piece until it becomes pliable. I then press them together and let them dry. They fuse together nicely, and I have no waste. It has worked for me for many years and works best if I use the same brand of soap. — C.B., Litchfield
