Resource Fair

LEWISTON — Lewiston Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program will host a Resource Fair from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at B-Street Community Building, Conference Room A, 57 Birch St.

Eastern Star meeting

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26 Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

The chapter will be honoring Past Matrons and Past Patrons, there will be a pot luck supper before the meeting at 6 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.

Danville Grange

AUBURN — Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. A Thanksgiving Day program will be presented by the lecturer. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

Goodwill craft fair

LEWISTON — Goodwill NeuroRehab Services will host a craft fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at 618 Main St. The fair will feature a variety of fall and winter handmade craft items.

All proceeds will benefit Goodwill NeuroRehab Services, which offers comprehensive brain injury services and treatment options for individuals with acquired brain injuries at locations in Lewiston and Portland.

Elks honor veterans

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Elks Lodge will hold a brief ceremony and spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, to honor veterans on Veterans Day.  The cost is $5 per person, free for veterans. Donations will be taken for the Lewiston Vets Center’s emergency fund. The Elks Lodge is at 1675 Lisbon St.

Veterans appreciation

LISBON — Lisbon VFW 9459 and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Veteran’s Appreciation Day on Friday, Nov. 11. The post will open at 2 p.m., with a complimentary meal for veterans at 5 p.m. The cost is $6 for others. There will be door prizes, giveaways and more. For information, call the post at 353-5291.

Accepting names

BOWDOIN — The Bowdoin Community Giving Tree project is accepting names for holiday gift-giving needs. The annual program was created to assist families by providing Christmas gifts for children of Bowdoin.

Church fair

TURNER — Turner Center Community Church, Route 117, will hold a holiday fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. Crafts, baked goods, white elephant table and lunch will be available.

Christmas fair

LISBON FALLS — United Methodist Church will hold its annual Winter Wonderland Christmas Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at 14 School St.

There will be baked goods, crafts, trash and treasures, nearly new, wreaths and other arrangements, fudge and candy table and theme baskets. A beef stew luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a cost of $5 for adults and $2 for children under 8.

POLAND — Poland Community School will host a Scholastic Book Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, in conjunction with the Family Fall Festival. Funds raised will help purchase books and reading related materials for the Poland Community School.

DAR meeting

BOWDOIN — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the home of Joanne Coombs.

A program based on “Small Treasures” will be held, and members are requested to bring something for a Show and Tell. The group will plan the Christmas luncheon, meeting, gift exchange and Togus project. All members are welcome.

Food drive

LEWISTON — The Salvation Army of Lewiston-Auburn will host a food and fund drive on Saturday, Nov. 12, at both Shaw’s locations to fill its canteen and kettle. The event will help provide food and supplies to families in need throughout the winter.

Shaw’s Lewiston “Cans for the Canteen” donations will be collected from 8 a.m. to noon and Shaw’s Auburn donations will be collected from 1 to 4 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to make the event successful.

The Salvation Army of L/A provides food and services to more than 1,000 people each month. To learn more about how to volunteer, contact the Salvation Army at 783-0801.

Grange craft fair

TURNER — Turner Grange Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Leavitt craft fair

TURNER — Leavitt Area High School will hold it 35th annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Leavitt on Lower Street.

Chamber events

WINTHROP — The Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce will host Texas Hold ’Em poker tournaments at American Legion Post 40 each month. A tournament will be held Sunday, Nov. 13, with the game beginning at 2 p.m. The tournaments will be held on the second Sunday of each month.

The cost is $55 ($5 for state licensing and $50 for the “pot”). Preregistration is required. Players must register by calling the chamber at 377-8020 and leaving their name, address and phone number.

Legion meeting, meal

AUBURN — American Legion Post 31 will hold its regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m., followed by a home-cooked meal at 6 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 14. Cost of the meal is $2.

Mandated reporter

LEWISTON — A mandated reporter training professional course will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Advocates for Children, 57 Birch St., Suite 204.

Learn what it means to be a mandated reporter of suspected abuse or neglect of a child and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse. This training includes the latest changes to the law, and will provide a basic framework for recognizing child abuse and neglect and the various indicators of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and emotional maltreatment. Participants will learn when to report, how to make a report, what to do if it’s an urgent situation, what happens after a report is filed and how to protect children and support families.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Mulit-Purpose Center on Nov. 3 were, first place: Bert Belanger and Gene Brown; second place: Norm Bissonnette and Sonny Beaudoin; third place: Louise Pelletier and Sandy Verrill; fourth place: Louise Carey and Gary David; fifth place: Don Haley and Mike Martin.

The next game will be played at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10.
