LEWISTON — Police are investigating a death at an Oxford Street apartment this evening.

Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said a team of state police detectives was called to the scene by the Lewiston Police Department late Wednesday afternoon to assist with the investigation.

A representative from Maine’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was on the scene.

Lewiston Police Chief Michael Bussiere said the death was characterized as “unexplained” as of 6 p.m.

A source at the scene said the remains of a young woman were found in a closet in an apartment on the third floor of a brick building.
